“both domains – design and systems – have something to contribute to each other”
At RSD8, Birger Sevaldson presented What is Systemic Design? Practices Beyond Modeling & Analyses, offering a working paper describing the systemic design “landscape” in keeping with the model of distributed authority, plurality, and interdisciplinary principles on which the theory is founded. Sevaldson sets the stage for drawing the landscape of systemic design, noting, “This large task can neither be completed in one working paper nor accomplished by one individual.” The design community responded – RSDsymposium.org hosts over 100 presentations on systemic design methods and methodology.
