  • Cecilia Landa-Avila is interested in delving into the complexity of contemporary global challenges to transition towards equitable, just and sustainable health and wellbeing societies. Her research interest stands at the intersections of systems thinking, participatory/shared-power design and design for equity and decolonisation. Cecilia gained a  PhD in Health Systems Design at Loughborough University, a BA in Industrial Design, and an MSc in Ergonomics in Design at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico.

    Currently, Cecilia is a Research Associate in Health Systems Design in DECODE, a research funded by the NIHR Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Multiple Long-Term Conditions (AIM) Programme. Her role focused on engaging with multiple stakeholders to codevelop AI scenarios for effective care coordination to improve the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities. Cecilia is also co-founder of RELAESA, a Latin American network of Ergonomics and Human Factors in Healthcare Systems, that brings together academics and healthcare practitioners to improve Latin American health systems and a member of the International Advisory Council of the Design Research Society (DRS).


The Systemic Design Association will send you quarterly updates on systemic design and activities in the SDA network. During the annual Relating Systems Thinking and Design (RSD) Symposium timeframe SDA will send brief updates related to RSD keynotes, papers, and workshops.

RSD11 event updates, program content, and proceedings are posted on
