Andrea Cattabriga
Andrea Cattabriga is currently a member of the Advanced Design Unit and a PhD Fellow in Architecture and Design Cultures at the University of Bologna. His research interests concern the impact of enabling technologies on collaborative innovation and design practices. His current doctoral research investigates an innovative design framework applying hybrid human-artificial intelligence strategies with community-in-the-loop approach capable to deliver actionable research insights in complex, multi-stakeholder and ecosystemic contexts.
Andrea approached the field of academic research after more than 10 years of professional in design, technology transfer and as an entrepreneur.
In 2019, he worked as Research Fellow at the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research, Bologna University (CIRI-ICT), exploring co-design methodologies aimed at facilitating product, service and innovation processes of SMEs within the project SUPER Craft.
In 2020 he was awarded with The III Triple Helix Summit Best Early Career Researcher Award for a conference paper concerning the embedding of Responsible Research Innovation in co-design processes.
Since 2019, he has been supporting didactic activities in the bachelor and master degree programs in Advanced Design at the University of Bologna as Adjunct Professor and Teaching Tutor. Previous teaching experience included the position of Adjunct Professor in Design Management at NABA Milano (from 2013 to 2015), Lecturer in Project Management at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (international 2nd level masters MuMet 2017, TACC 2018), and Lecturer and Faculty Member at IED Milano - Samsung Maestros Program (2014).
In 2020, Andrea co-founded the Junto Innovation Hub in Modena, to support technological innovation in the regional territorial ecosystem of Emilia-Romagna. He was also co-founder of Slow/d in 2012, an award-winning design firm that pioneered the distributed design and new sustainable production models with its Km-Zero-Design platform.
Andrea also holds a Master's degree in Architectural and Urban Design from La Sapienza University of Rome, and an Executive Master in Business Innovation Design from the Bologna Business School.
He is passionate about open source technologies and he's a well-established nerd when it comes to knowledge management systems. He is also a scarce guitarist, night-time coder and niche sports enthusiast.
