Defne Sunguroglu Hensel
Dr Defne Sunguroğlu Hensel is a trained architect and partner in the practices OCEAN net and OCEAN Architecture | Environment. She is Associate Professor at Southeast University in Nanjing, China, and senior researcher at Technical University Munich. Previously she taught at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Technical University Munich, Vienna University of Technology, and at Sydney University of Technology where she held an honorary innovation fellowship.
She is a series editor of the Springer Nature book series Designing Environments, and scientific board member of the Special Interest Group Knowledge Discovery in Architecture - Addressing Complexity in Architecture and Planning at the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Vienna University of Technology. She is also coordinating manager and board member of the LamoLab Research Centre in Tuscany, Italy. Her research focuses on design methodology and data-driven design along an interdisciplinary approach that integrates architecture, landscape architecture and urban design within a social—ecological systems framework. The work addresses urbanization, and related environmental challenges through hybrid land use, hybrid architectural typologies, advanced design, and construction.
